Here's what Donna has to say!!

Dear Paula,

Hope all is going well with you.  I know how busy you must be!

Just thought I would send along an update on Jessie.  She is doing sooo much better with her "puppy" biting.  Your advice on making the correction with a leash was great.  She nibbles every now and then.  She starts Puppy Obedience Feb. 9th (I think I told you it is clicker training).  She will also be going to doggy daycare Mondays & Fridays starting  Feb. 2nd to stay socialized because she is too big for Planet Dog Romper Room! We visited the daycare on Monday and they loved her.  She was on her best behavior and I was quite proud of her.

We have had so many compliments on her beauty.  I have to say, she is the most beautiful shepherd ever!  It's still hard to say if she will be a long coat.  After looking at her littermates on your Dana/Onyx page, I have my doubts.  It doesn't matter anyway because we love her dearly either way.

She sits, goes down (but not a down stay yet) and gives us "five".  Still working on housetraining.  Some days are better than others!  She weighs in at 32 lbs. but is not fat because I can feel her ribs.

Paula,  thank you for Jessie.  She fills my heart with joy.

Enclosed is a new pic taken last Sunday (2/18).  She loves snow as I am sure all puppies do.

Take care and stay warm!  Summer will be here someday!

~Donna

Below update on Jessie:

Good morning, Paula.  Just wanted to send you an updated pic of Jessie.  She is very proud of the fact that her ears are up!  Now maybe people will stop asking her what kind of dog is she!

Have a great weekend.

Below another "Jessie update!

OMG!  I just went on to your website and saw pics of Rudolph.  He is so handsome!  That could be Jessie!  I will send a picture and you can see for yourself.  She also looks alot like Violett, too.  Have a great day.

Another "Jessie" Update!!!

Hi Paula,

I haven't chatted with you in sometime.  Hope all is well with you and your family (including the pups!)

Jessie was spayed last Monday and the vet checked her hips while she was "out" .  His comment was:  " Her hips are very tight, no looseness whatsoever.  She has excellent genes!  She has turned out to be a lovely young "grownup".  How's that for a compliment?  I thought you might like to hear such a nice compliment (of course, you already knew all of this)!

Jessie is doing quite well.  She has finished one set of classes and will start the next set on Thursday.  We are preparing her for the CGC.  She is not only a beautiful girl, she is also quite a character!  She loves people and other dogs. I take her to doggie daycare 3x a week to keep her well socialized.. I wish I could say the same for our kitten, who she chases whenever she gets the chance.

She is our little (or should I say big) Princess.

Take care and have a nice week.

Donna

Below is "Niklas"a black & red Dana/Onyx male he lives with Doris & Roy in Greenfield, Ma.,

Niklas.jpg picture by mirasam

this is what he has to say:

Sent: Thursday, January 01, 2009 6:45 PM
Subject: I am growing and I love the snow

This is me at 9 Weeks old.  I have one ear up (as you can see) and I am working on the other one.  I am very curious and observant, along with being very loving and grateful for my toys and food (especially my food).  The past few days I have been enjoying tunneling through the snow with my nose.   I guess that's kind of obvious from my photo.
Happy New Year,
Nik

Update on "Niklas":Hi Paula,

Nik is doing well.  He is a great joy.  He has lost 4 baby teeth so far that I am aware of, lower and upper central incisors.  He loves Puppy K of course and plays well with the other dogs.  He is very friendly with people.  He seems to enjoy meeting everyone he gets an opportunity to.

He is not quite housebroken.  He knows he should go outside, but sometimes  if I don't get to him immediately upon his request to go out or if he is playing he just doesn't think about it and pees on the floor.

Nik is very curious and is into everything (as were our prior GSDs and I suspect most all of the breed).  Often it's not what he should be into!!!!!  He has lot's of toys, which he enjoys, but he looks for variety by attacking household items he is not allowed to!!!!  As with any puppy, I have to watch him every minute.

He does have one really annoying behavior, which I believe is "playing" in his mind.  He attacks my pant legs and my feet, hands, arms.  Nothing I have done has worked to stop this, so now I keep his leash on him all the time and pull him off of me and substitue a toy as fast as I can get to one.  He keeps coming back though.  Any ideas on how to stop this behavior, or do I have to keep working on it until he stops on his own?  There is another German Shepherd (female) in puppy k.  Her owner reports that she still does it and she is a month older than Nik.  Our puppy k teacher did not have any suggestions beyond the number of things I have already tried.  She believes the behavior is related to their herding instincts.

I know he needs lots of exercise but it has been difficult the past few weeks to exercise him enough as the snow is so deep and crusted over.  Too difficult to trudge through and I'm concerned that Nik will get hurt sliding on it or having one or more legs breaking through it while he is running.  Our house is 46 feet long and there is a straight shot from through the back section so we play fetch often inside.  This does help "spend" some of his energy.  I am so looking forward to warmer weather.

Loved the web page--it was fun to see Nik's siblings.

I'll keep the photos and info coming.  I have signed Nik up for a recall class with a trainer my vet highly recommends.  Her web site is http://www.canineheadstart.com/  I will talk with her about the Canine Good Citizen class as well.  I intend to make sure Nik and I get plenty of training.  Both of us will be much happier for it.

Another "Niklas" Update from Doris:

 Hi Paula,
Here are some recent photos of Niklas.  Everyone that sees him comments on how handsome he is.  He has a great personality, he loves everyone--a real people kind of guy.  He is great in the car.  We just started a training program called Reliable Recall, last week was our first session.  This trainer uses a clicker.  I am working hard to get the timing and technique down!!!!  What I hope to accomplish with this training class is that Nik will come immediately, no matter what he is doing, if I call him using a special emergency call to come.  Nik is off leash all the time when we walk in the woods, I want to be sure I can stop him from getting into trouble or hurt.

Below: More Niklas updates from 4-6-09

Hi Paula,
Here are some recent photos of Niklas.  His nose is muddy as he found a very special vernal pool in ours woods that he could not resist placing his nose in.....
He just keeps getting better behaved, bigger and stronger.  He is almost finished with his Reliable Recall class and we will start another class on the 23rd.  He is so great with other dogs and very friendly to all of the people he meets.  We will keep giving him experiences that ensure that continues.
Hope all is well with you and yours,
Doris

Hi Paula,

Below is a Dana/Onyx male "Echo"  that lives with Ralph & Marianne in Groveland Ma. here is what they have to say:

Hi Paula,
I just visited the website and saw some of Echo's siblings.  They are all very unique looking.  I have enclosed these 2 pictures that were taken when he first came home and another of him this morning.  He is getting much bigger and weighs 37 lbs! He loves the snow and likes to get it piled on him when we have to shovel. He tries to play with our other dog who is 14, but Echo is a bit too playful for him.  The cats still haven't accepted him yet. It only took about 2 weeks to house train him.  He has learned to sit and lay down on command.  He can also "stay" when told even if a treat is placed in front of him.  He still is mouthing quite a bit but hopefully that will improve. He will probably start to lose his baby teeth soon.  He travels in the car all the time.  I try to take him everywhere with me even if it's only to get a cup of coffee. Whenever I'm out with him, I get so many compliments on his looks. He is very handsome and has a very shiny coat. His adult fur is coming in all down his back and tail.  I put flax seed in his food twice a day.  Some days he drives me crazy, but he is a love.  He is always at my feet and following me around.  One to 2 days a week he goes to his "grandparents house" to be dog sat.  We hope all is well and I'm sure your busy with the new litter running around!

     Take care and thanks

"Echo" Update!!!

Hi Paula,
Here is a recent photo of Echo. He is getting pretty big and weighs 65 lbs. He is a love!  He likes to play on top of the loop lock pool cover, so I'm sure when we open the pool he'll be in it. He loves to chase our cats and play soccer with our son. We take him to doggy play group a few times a week and he loves the bike park so he can socialize with other dogs. Take care.

 New "Echo" Update!!!

Hi Paula,
Here are some more pictures of Echo.  He is 73 lbs! He is such a good boy and listens well.  Our cats are even tolerating him. I took him to play group 2 weeks ago and another German Shepherd was there that looked just like him and it turned out to be his sibling Lainey! What a small world.  He is so handsome with such a shiny coat.  Everyone asks me where I got him. As you can see he loves water so I just bought him a little kiddy pool to play in.

Below is another update on how "Echo" is doing!

Hi Paula,
Here are the latest pictures of Echo. I can't believe he is almost a year old. He weighs 95 lbs now although you can't tell from these pictures. He is a great dog and loves to play with his friends every morning at play group. He is the biggest dog there and frequently plays with the little puppies(I don't think he realizes how big he is). He goes everywhere with me in the car. At least now he jumps into the back of my SUV instead of me trying to pick him up.  He still chases my cats but they tolerate him a little better now. I frequently look at your website at the cute pictures of the new puppies, maybe someday Echo can have a playmate. Take care.

Below is "Lainey" a black & red Dana/Onyx female, she lives with Kimberly in Haverhill Ma.

Lainey.jpg picture by mirasam

Hi Paula,
Know you're swamped with pups again, don't know how you do it. Here are a few pics of Lainey from the last week and a half. As you can see, her ears are coming up nicely and she is getting very socialized already. Met my sister's dog for Christmas (50 lb. cattle dog) and spent time among four Shelties Christmas Eve and Christmas Night. I know all these dogs and they all have their shots etc. She has also been to PetCo and State Line Pets where her feet never touched the floor and she got all kinds of people attention. Everyone comments on how beautiful she is. She starts Puppy Kindergarten January 6th at a facility in Rowley a retired breeder/kennel owner I know works for. She is starting to come when called and has been on a leash since day one. Riding in a car is second nature now and you should have seen her face when we went through drive-up at Dunkin Donuts! Anyway, have a Happy New Years.
Kimberly

Update on Lainey is getting bigger!!!!<<2-5-2009>>

Hi Everyone,
She is getting big and driving me crazy sometimes- but I wouldn't trade her for anything! She is a happy girl who is protecting me and kissing the cat (who hates it). Puppy kindergarten has been fun but I can't wait for the nice weather to show her what the world really looks like! new adventures await and I can't wait to go on them with her. Take care-
Kim

More "Lainey" Updates!

Hi Dan and Paula,

Just wanted to let you know I've had several people comment on what a beautiful girl Lainey is. An older gentleman (kidding) asked me if I wanted to sell her today when I walked her in Newburyport. I'm telling everyone where I got her and I've spelled out "Ryanhaus" a couple of times.  She is a happy girl and doing well with her commands and socialization.  Thanks again for giving me the opportunity to own her.  Hope all is well with you and the rest of the gang!
Kimberly

Another "Lainey" Update 4-19-09

Dear Paula and Dan,
I know I don't belong on the furniture, but I had to prove that I can fit! I'm 45 pounds now and full of it!  I took my first trip away from home and as you can see by the other two pictures- I enjoyed it!   Got lots of attention which pooped me out.  I only barked when I shouldn't have once. That was when the garbage disposal went on.  I don't have one at home and it freaked me out a little. Just wanted to say hello and that my mom now has a fenced in yard for me to run in. I love it!
Love, Lainey and Kimberly

Another "Lainey Update"!

Hi Paula,
Hope you can watch this. Lainey is a sweetie who races her brother all over the yard. He has about 15 pounds on her but she is pretty tough when she wants to be. I love her bedtime kisses and when she wants to lie on the couch and veg- which doesn't happen much with her brother around! They both have fits and get upset when I separate the two of them or one goes somewhere without the other. They even stick up for each other when I'm scolding one of them.  That's no fun, it becomes two against one then! Anyway, good luck with the next litter. Not ready for three dogs yet!
Cheers!
Kimberly

"Jenna" Update!!!

jenna_feb_11th_2009_001.jpg picture by mirasamjenna_feb_11th_2009_002.jpg picture by mirasam

Hi Paula,
I was looking at all Jenna's litter mates. They are all so beautiful.
So I had to send an update of my baby.(pics taken Feb 11th)
She's very smart. She finished her 1st puppy kindergarten class. She does, come, sit, down, leave it, and I'm trying to get her to "play dead" We're still working on this trick, :)
Paula do  you know how I truly know I picked out the perfect pet?
We both have a shoe fetish I do! LOL
We walk everyday and Jenna is a regular social butterfly! She loves people and every dog that comes into the kennel.
Next month She is getting spayed. I so happy with this love of a dog!
I saw the pics of Jessie and she is beautiful. She sure looks like a long hair.
Jenna has been visiting Rudolph at Puppy kindergarten every Saturday.
The two of them clowning around is a sight to see. Two bundles of furry fluff zooming around
Hope you keep the puppy update page. (I love to see how the whole litter is growing)
Thanks,
Kim

Rocco & Christine from Holbrook Ma. have adopted a black & red Dana/Onyx male named "Brando"
pictures are coming soon, this is what they have to say about their little bugger!!!

Happy New Year Paula and Family!

We just wanted to let you know how Brando is doing.  He is a complete joy.  We love having him in our home.  He recently mastered the steps outside so we no longer have to carry him to go out.  He absolutely loves the snow, he burrows his head and tunnels along and returns with a "snowface", really cute.  He had his first visit to the vet this week and he is healthy and now weighs 20lbs, he grows right before our eyes.  He will go back next week for his next round of shots.  He has learned to sit and give his paw at treat time.

As you know Paula, I could go on and on.  He is a fun pup to have around.  As soon as I remember to bring the camera out of hiding, I'll send some pictures.  Hoping to begin training with Mike Kelly soon.

Thanks again for this beautiful pup.  He is loved!

Sincerely,
Chris & Rocco

he lives inBarrington NH with Patti, here is what she says....

Hi paula
I saw some of Rudolph's siblings on the website and thought I would send along a pic of my little guy!  This is Rudolph at 11 weeks of age (taken this morning).  Rudolph is an awesome puppy and we couldn't be more smitten with him!  Thank you again for letting him become part of our family!
Take care

"Rudolph" Update!

Hi Paula,

I wanted to say how much we enjoy your website and the updates you post from the other Dana/Onyx puppy parents :).

It's funny how we are all dealing with the same things!  Rudolph is now (finally!) giving up biting, and he's housebroken as long as my reflexes in running to open the door FAST are in good shape LOL  He even gave up chasing the chihuahuas in favor of his new love: a tennis ball!  (my home is now a minefield of tennis balls LOL)  He's taken one set of puppy classes and is pretty good with very basic obedience, which we practice ALL the time :)

Here is an updated pic of Rudolph, now 4 months old and 38 pounds!  It's not a very good picture, but it's incredibly difficult to catch him sitting still these days! LOL   (I'm getting in better shape going for LONG walks with him everyday now.)

People comment on how lovely he is, everywhere we go.  I just LOVE this dog!  He brings joy to every day.

Take care,
Patti

Just love my boy :)

More Rudolph updates!

Hi Paula!
Hard to believe he's six months old already!  I thought you'd like to see a new pic or two .... I just think he's beautiful :)

We love him very much!

A "Rudolph" Update!!!  When asked is Rudolph behaving?.......

Hi Paula!

Of course not!  He's an adolescent! LOL

At about 3-4 months he discovered he could bark really LOUD and surprise people .... Rudolph found it amusing, people around us found it terrifying .... So we worked on it with his trainer and lots of practice .... And he was perfect for a week or so .... Now his latest thing is to be highly reactive with other dogs. Not my dogs, just ones he doesn't know .... lots of barking, lunging & growling.  So we're back working with a behaviorist, and he's lots better. Yesterday at the groomers he was fine with other dogs being there, and he couldn't have tolerated that (without a meltdown) even three weeks ago ..... so we continue to progress thru his adolescense :)

Nothing out of the ordinary for a large working breed :)

And I simply adore him;)

Take care
Patti

More Rudolph updates! 6-13-09

Hi Paula!
Here's some new pics of my boy!  I'm so proud of him :-)

Rudolph is doing wonderful!  His "issue" with other dogs appears completely solved, he is LOVED at daycare, and is soooooo playful and does so well now, that they actually use him to help "new dogs" feel comfortable!   He continues to do well in obedience classes every week, and he's been exposed to agility equipment, which he REALLY enjoys!

We may take some agility classes in the future, but for now Rudolph's all consuming passion continues to be his mission of 'ridding the world of chipmunks' while on our daily hikes :-)

Nice seeing you on FB, and thanks for leaving up the page of Rudolph and his  siblings.....it's fun to see how everyone is growing up :-)

more pics (separate emails) to follow

Echo update!

 Hi Paula,
Here are some more pictures of Bella (Xander/Bonnie) and Echo (Dana/Onyx).  We think they are the greatest dogs ever! They are so loveable and adore each other.  They play with Miley(Theo/Tessie) pup on the weekends and love to play with other dogs in play group. Bella weighs 72 lbs and Echo is 100 lbs. Walking them together is a feat in itself but they are getting better everyday. I hope to see these new pictures on the website. I look forward to seeing pictures of the up coming litter.
