Hello! I am hoping to get a pup from you guys shortly (as soon as I have my closing on my house and get up a fence!) I was wondering if there is a reason to get either a male or a female or if it is all in preference. I have a male dog now (he is fixed), he is a lab mix and is a year and a half. He is very passive and friendly. Any suggestions?
Thanks! Melissa | |

Hi Melissa, I think it boils down to the indivduals preference.
Each dog does have it's own tolerence towards certain people and other animals, a properly socialized dog with a well bred temperament should adapt very well to any living situation, if socalized and trained correctly through the puppy stage to adulthood. Most dogs respect their elders and look to them for guidance! My Theo von Ryan is an intact male that lives with Rollie an intact male, but their age difference is over 3 years apart, so Rollie has no question who to respect. Sometimes there may be a challenge between two adult dogs in the same household cause they are the same age, or close to the same age, that's why it's a good idea to wait for the first dog to have training & socialization before bringing a second dog home.
Having said all that, good luck making your decision!
